About Us
Founded in August 2022, we are a female-owned tattoo shop based in the heart of Strood's high street, in Kent. We strive to create a welcoming and friendly environment, allowing all walks of life through our doors.
At Beloved Light Tattoo, we view tattooing as a form of self-expression and body positivity - but most of all, it’s fun! Tap below to meet our artists and see what we have to offer.
ELLIE LOUISE INK
Ellie recently finished her apprenticeship and as of January 2024, is now a junior artist. She has been learning, growing and loving each tattoo she has completed and is broadening her portfolio every day. Her preferred styles are traditional-inspired and sparkle/glitter tattooing, and she loves fantasy and mythology designs.
Frequently Asked
Q - How do I book in?
A – We have a fill-out form on this website here! Simply answer the questions, specify your artist, include your details and press send. We will reply via email at the earliest opportunity. Alternatively, if you want to contact our artists directly, Amia and Ellie take bookings via email only - amiatattoo@gmail.com and ellielouiseink@gmail.com.
Q - How long will I have to wait for a response?
A – Amia and Ellie try to do their emails on Mondays and Thursdays, but this varies depending on workload. Usually, you will hear from your artist within a few days but this may extend to a week. Please be patient regardless, as we haven’t forgotten you.
Q - How much will my tattoo cost?
A – Tattoos are charged at an hourly rate. Amia is £90 per hour, Ellie is £70 per hour. Your artist will give you a quote based on time once you have filled out the design form. Sometimes, if changes to design/placement/size are made, you may be charged more on the day of your tattoo. Likewise, if your session was to finish up sooner than expected, you will be charged less.
Q - Do I need to pay a deposit?
A – Yes. Deposits, or booking fees, are very important. They cover the cost of admin time and preparing for your tattoo, as well as securing your appointment in the diary. Your tattoo cannot be booked without a deposit. Tattoo artists spend hours on top of studio time designing and replying to clients! The fee comes off of the total quote for your tattoo session, so you simply pay the remainder on the day itself.
Q - I need to cancel! Can I get my deposit back?
A – Unfortunately, no. As previously mentioned, the deposit/booking fee covers costs external to the tattoo itself (admin, designing). So even before your design is drawn, the fee goes towards administration. Please make sure you are 100% sure about your appointment before booking in, as your deposit is non-refundable.
Q - Can I reschedule?
A – Yes. If you request a reschedule at least 72 hours before your appointment, your booking fee can be moved to a new date. If you cancel within that period, a new booking fee will need to be paid in order to get back in the diary.
Q - When will I receive a sketch of my tattoo?
A – Each artist has her own process for drawing, but you will receive a draft of your tattoo before your session regardless. Sometimes this may be a couple of days in advance, sometimes it will be the day before. Please do not hassle us for your design! This adds to our admin workloads and slows the entire process down.
Q - Can I make changes to the drawing?
A – Yes. If you aren’t 100% sure on the design you are sent, please let us know straight away with as much clarity as possible as we need to make this happen before your appointment. Your artist will do her best to accommodate your request. Please note the following:
- if you ask your artist to redraw over and over and over, your session may be cancelled – we need our clients to be
clear and sure, and open-ended change requests like this do not fill us with confidence
- the quote for the tattoo may increase with changes in size/placement/design
- if you make major last-minute changes (i.e., a complete redraw, adding in new elements that haven’t been
previously discussed), you may be required to rebook and pay a new booking fee as we may not be able to fit
these in to your booked slot. Likewise, if you make changes after your design is agreed, you will lose your deposit.
Q - Will you copy another person’s design?
A – We are custom artists and so cannot copy another person’s work. Out of respect to them, we don’t feel comfortable taking their work. We will happily use it as inspiration when creating something new, but if you want a direct copy, we are not the artists for you and recommend you reach out to another tattooist. Thank you for your understanding and respect for our stance on this matter. Likewise, even if you have permission from the original artist, we prefer not to work with briefs like this.
Q - Do you do cover-up tattoos?
A – Yes! Amia specialises in cover-ups and Ellie is continuing to grow in this field. When contacting us to book your tattoo, please included a photo of your current tattoo, along with details of what you want over it.
Q - Can you tattoo over scars?
A – Yes, to a point. Your scar must be at least one year healed and no longer inflamed. Scars can be tricky, so we advise you to contact us; you may be asked to send a photo or come in for a free consultation where we can assess the situation in person. Please don’t be offended if we decide we cannot work over your scar.
Q - What about skin conditions, like eczema?
A – No. We cannot tattoo over active eczema, likewise with other skin conditions. Acne, psoriasis, bruising etc must all be avoided. If you have had eczema in the past, let us know during the initial stages of your booking as this may affect how long it takes to tattoo your skin.
Q - Can I use numbing cream?
A – We cannot advise you regarding numbing cream, as we are not a licensed anaesthetists and therefore not in a position to give you professional instructions. Each artist reserves the right to refuse service if they are not comfortable working with numbing cream, and this must be respected. Please contact your artist straight away to discuss the matter, as you may be turned away on the day if you arrive with it already applied.
Q - Can I bring someone with me to my session?
A – We strongly advise clients to come alone due to the small size of the studio. If you really must bring a plus-one, we can accommodate one person per client only.
Q - Can I eat at the studio?
A – Yes! Please bring snacks and/or lunch with you. We ask that you do not eat within the working space and spend your lunch break within the waiting area.
Q - I have accessibility needs. What should I know?
A – We are a welcoming, safe environment for all. However, please know that the entrance to the studio is not wheelchair-friendly due to the setup built by the landlord. We will try to help as much as reasonably possible with this matter.
Q - I am under the age of 18. Can I get tattooed with parental/guardian permission?
A – No. It is illegal to tattoo anyone under 18 and we will not waver on this matter. Please book in after your 18th birthday and make sure to bring photo ID with you (passport, driving license).
For any other queries, please refer to our Terms and Conditions and our Deposit Booking Policy. You can also find our expected Client Etiquette here too.
